Faith At Work
How does your faith influence your work?
I’m a business coach which means I work with small businesses, both on and off the Internet, to improve their systems and their marketing. I also write ad copy at times for these companies as well. You can see my Integrity Business Blog over at http://www.terrydean.org if you’re interested in business and marketing tips.
As a business coach, I concentrate on increasing the profits of the businesses I work with…and I find there is no way to seperate my faith from my business. Even on my business focused blog, I run articles such as these:
Do you know what annoys me most? People claim you shouldn’t talk about “religion” in business. Yet we have business owners who think nothing of recommending New Age philosophies such as “The Secret” without thinking twice about it. It’s OK to talk about God or “the universe.” Mention Jesus…and people get upset about religion.
If you’re a Christian, it’s part of who you are. It determines how you think, how you talk, and how you act.
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think you should go around wearing your beliefs on your sleeve…and that everybody has to hear about them. You shouldn’t be witnessing at work when you’re paid to be working. I also never preach to my coaching clients or in any of my business products. I may mention somewhere that I’m a Christian, but if people paid for information or help with _______, that’s what they get. Nothing else ever.
I will not hide my faith and my beliefs though ever just to make someone comfortable. If I’m asked a question that brings me into the subject of my faith, I don’t back down from it. And here’s a little tip…I find the more “gentle approach” often works best such as the “Are you Thankful” article on my business blog above.
