Kingdom Business is Calling

1

You have a calling from God.

You may not have realized it yet or accepted it, but you’re called to something great.

God is thinking about you. And He has a plan for you.

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11

I’ve struggled with this for a long time. As you may or may not know, I’ve been an ordained minister for 16 years. I went to Bible college for over two years although I never graduated (that is a story for another day).

I’ve preached at churches…and even “tried” to establish a church in my area before (only to find out I wasn’t a very good pastor).

Why? I felt the calling. I knew I was called and had a purpose.

My background up till that time told you that if you were called, then it was to be in full-time ministry.

I even had a minister say, “If you’re not in full-time ministry, you must not have a very strong calling.”

Little did I know he was full of crap (basically just his “pride” talking and putting himself above other believers).

As you may or may not know at this point, I got started in the business world because I was broke. Really, worse than broke. I had tens of thousands of dollars in debt…with seeming no way to get out. I started working on the Internet to find a way out of this mess.

At first, I thought I was leaving my calling behind. Maybe I was pursuing money instead of what I was called to do. Perhaps I was trying to short-cut God’s plan for me. Maybe I just totally missed it.

I did miss it, but not in the way I first thought.

God Is Holding The World and You In His Hands

God Is Holding The World and You In His Hands

I simply needed to realize how much I was limiting God in my life.

Hopefully this article will help you come to the same conclusion.

God’s calling isn’t limited simply to a pastor or evangelist. And He has no desire to be chained inside your church building.

He wishes to be in your home, in your family, and in your work. We’ve made a mistake by compartmentalizing our lives. We’ve tried to keep our church lives separate from our home lives. And everything separate from our work lives.

That’s doesn’t work. And it definitely doesn’t work when you try to shut God out of your home and your work. He’s been relegated to an hour and a half on Sunday morning…and the pastor better not preach too long. My stomach is rumbling!

I suggest you spend some good time in the Gospels and the Book of Acts. You’ll find God isn’t limited to our neat little box. He wasn’t held hostage in a church building. The church was a living breathing organism of people of every race and nationality. Yes, at first the apostles tried to keep the message from the Gentiles, but God blew up Peter’s limited thinking over at Cornelius’ house in Acts 10.

Read that story. Notice how surprised both Peter and the others were at what God did.

Today God is doing something very similar. We’ve relegated Him to the church, but it won’t hold Him any longer.

He isn’t just the God of your Sundays. He is also the God of your Mondays. And every other day of your life.

If you’re reading this, perhaps you have a similar calling to me. Maybe you’ve even went through some of the same struggles about finding your purpose. You know you’re called, but religious tradition has blinded you from the simple fact.

God hasn’t made a mistake. You, like Esther, have been called for such a time as this.

“For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
Esther 4:14

Maybe your calling, like mine, is in the area of business…kingdom business.

And don’t limit yourself to just what people think of as a “Christian business.” This doesn’t mean you have to run a Christian bookstore. God needs accountants, lawyers, consultants, doctors, nurses, etc. He needs people in their jobs. He needs internet business owners. He need entrepreneurs with a vision to change their market and their world.

You have visions and dreams in your heart. How did they get there? Who put them there? Religious traditions are great at crushing dreams.

God is the dream maker.

“Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.”
Ps 37:4

I don’t think that scripture simply means God looks in your heart and gives you those desires. I feel it means God gave you those desires. He’s the one who put them in there.

And He wants you to dream big!

I remember back when I was in Bible college. A friend asked me a question. She asked me, “Do you think God ever gives you dreams that seem impossible?”

The answer I gave had to be a revelation from God. Because I’m not that smart.

I told her God would never give you dreams you can accomplish without Him. If it looks easy…or even possible for you…what would you need Him for?

Fast food restaurants seem to love Supersize and Biggie-Size. Dreams from God only come in God-size.

I’ll bet you have some God-sized dreams sitting in your heart today. You might have dismissed them. You might feel your past disqualifies you. It’s easy to say, I’m too young or I’m too old. Or I could never do that because of something in my life.

But all those excuses simply show you are looking at yourself. You’re relying on yourself…not on God’s power working in you and through you.

Answer this question…What can God do? What is possible for Him?

Now let’s get to the more difficult question that holds us back…What can God do through you?

Is God big enough to overcome your weaknesses? If He great enough to accomplish work even through you?

He is…if only you’ll allow Him to. Accept your calling. Accept what He wants to do through you. It may take time…years…possibly even decades…to reach the dream He has for you. Joseph spent YEARS in slavery on the way to the fulfillment of His dream.

I don’t know the path God has laid out for you…but I do know He is thinking good thoughts toward you to bring you to your expected end.

My question for you is…

What are you doing today to prepare for God’s next step in His plan for you?
